Katie at 19 Months, St. George and the Utah Winter Olympics
Katie at 19 months
My favorite songs are ‘Jesus’ (Jesus wants me for a sunbeam), Kitties, Here’s a ball for baby, 5 little monkeys and We are a Happy Family
My favorite foods are cheese (plain cheese and macaroni and cheese), apple juice (which is what I call every drink), ‘ogurt’ and ‘mellows’ (marshmellows)
My favorite toys are my baby and whatever Ryan is playing with. I just like to play with him.
My favorite clothes are my boot cut jeans and jean overalls, my blue plaid capris and cherry shirt, my new white sandals, my cute pink candy pjs, my valentine heart jammies, and my sketcher shoes
Mom does my hair every morning while I sit on the bathroom counter and watch in the mirros. I like it when she puts it in two pony tails so I look like ‘Boo’ from Monsters Ince. She always blow dries my bangs so they curl under.
I’m talking a lot these days and can say pretty much anything … well I try at least. Mommy and Daddy’s favorite words right now are ‘bell-but’ (belly button, ‘bobay’ (G&G Johnsons dog Bojay), ‘Maama’ (Grandma), ‘Baapa’ (Grandpa), ‘Yia-Yay’ (Ryan) and my own name ‘Taydee Johda’.
I love to have Family Home Evening with my family. I am really good at kneeling and folding my arms for our Family Prayer every night. I’m a good example to Ryan and my parents think I’m adorable. At the end of the prayer I get very excited and say ‘Amen!’ and then throw my arms in the air and then say “SHAKE, SHAKE!” Then Mommy, Daddy, Ryan and I do our family hand shake. I usually make them do it 2 or 3 times. Then we do family hugs. I hug Daddy, then Mommy, then Ryan.
I’m a good girl when I go to bed. I say ‘Bed, Bed’ and am excited to get in my bed, lay down and flop my arms over my blanket. Right now I’m using Grandma’s yellow blanket that has ties all over it and I have to grab two of the ties and play with them in my fingers. I like to have my little baby and my teddy bear in bed with me. I rarely cry.
I love to have baths! I say ‘faf, faf’ and I love to splash around and lay on my tummy and kick my legs. I don’t really like to get my hair washed … but I tolerate it.
I don’t like to get dressed. I do like to try and get dressed by myself, even when I already have clothes on I will try to put more pants on top. I like trying to put my own shoes on too. I’m such a big girl!

St. George
We went to St. George with the Chuggs over Presidents Day. We had fun exploring on the red cliffs above the city. Ryan and Katie had so much fun leading everyone through the Narrows. It was fun to hike around, explore and take pictures in our ‘Lovers Arch’.
The Utah Winter Olympics
On Friday February 9, 2002, we went to the Sandy City Ampitheatre with John and Nikole and Grandma and Grandpa to see the TORCH and be part of the real olympic experience! It was exciting to see the torch coming and cheer with such a large excited crowd. They put on a small program and we sang the National Anthem. Even though we nearly froze to death, we enjoyed being there.
That night we ordered pizza and watched the amazing opening ceremonies on TV. We were so happy to be in Utah during the 2002 Winter Games.
Downtown Celebration
We went downtown Salt Lake City with John and Nikole to join in the celebrations. It was so fun. We walked through Gateway to see the long Roots line, enjoyed the Coca-Cola Pavilion with all the Olympic sports and had fun walking past the Medals Plaza. We loved seeing all the Olympic Banners and Temple Square all lit up. One night we went to Light of the World in the Conference Center. Everything was amazing!
Olympic Ski Jump
Chris and I were determined to go to an Olympic event. We didn’t have any tickets, but we drove up to the Utah Olympic Park venue in Park City early in the morning on February 21, 2002. Before we could even get out of our car, we had purchased fantastic 8th row tickets for $60. We were so excited. Then we ran into Jared and Geneva even though we had no idea they would be there. We laughed so hard. It was so fun to be there in person among all the cheering crowds. A day we will never forget!
