I love Dubrovnik, Croatia!
The plan was to take a shuttle bus to the ‘Old Town’ of Dubrovnik… but instead of paying 8 Euro per person, we decided to take two taxis and pay less. The taxi drivers drove us up the mountain to three different view points before taking us to town. It was perfect. I’m pretty sure Dubrovnik, Croatia was my favorite port – which is hard to say, because they were all wonderful – but I just loved everything about this place and definitely want to go back someday.
Our first glimpse of the ‘Old City’ jetting out into the water and completely walled.
Twenty years ago the Croatians fought for their Independence and battled troops from Bosnia right over these hills. Signs of battle remain all over the hilltop, with many bullet holes on old walls. Our taxi driver, who fought in the war 20 years ago, told us interesting stories of the war as he drove and pointed things out. It was fascinating.Doing the ‘sasha’ over the old town of Dubrovnik…
One of the taxi drivers told us that fighting in the war taught him “to appreciate the little stuff… like kissy kissy, jiggy jiggy.” It became one of our main cruise quotes after that. Here the taxi driver/picture taker is encouraging us to do a little kissy, kissy. I don’t think Terri and Brian quite got the message.
Driving down the hill towards the old city…
Our taxi driver dropped us off outside the walled city and then we went in to explore. We walked down the main streets and they were PACKED with tourists. We grabbed gelato and then took off for the less explored parts of town.
This cat was fun to watch. And Chris has two ice cream cones because I didn’t want mine. It wasn’t my favorite cherry… but Chris will eat anything.
I love this sign…
Geneva took this one of all of us and I love it…
Oh boy did we have good pizza for lunch. We ordered three pizzas and each took 1/4th. So fun to try all of them… I think this is where I really started liking green olives. So good.
Above is the ‘pirate with parrots guy’ anxious to make some money if you hold a parrot. Of course this town had a ‘spray painted gold statue guy’ too (…but he wasn’t near as good as the Barcelona guy.) What cracked me up was when the parrot guy packed up and walked down the street he passed the statue guy and they said hi to each other and talked for a minute like they were old friends. It just made me laugh, especially when statue guy said bye and then went back to being a statue.
The last thing we did in the Old City was to walk around the wall. I love walking a city wall… it gives you such great perspective and a great view inside and outside of the city. It’s always my favorite part of visiting a new town – that and climbing the tallest tower! Jared and Geneva decided to come with us. It took about an hour to walk the whole thing… and it was so fun!
The Chuggs and us! So fun to have them living in Germany now!
I could have stayed in Dubrovnik longer… but we had to get back to the boat. We had a great dinner at 8:15. Played Mad Gab in the games room, had a fun time over at the Karaoke Lounge (more to come on that later), and FINALLY went to the Vibe Dance Club for some dancing. I LOVE dancing and I had to drag everyone in there. Then we ended our night with popcorn up by the pool. Great day.
