Caen

An hour after we left our cute little motel in Honfleur we arrived at “The Caen Memorial: History to Understand the World.”  It’s supposedly the best WWII museum in France which effectively puts the Battle of Normandy in a broader context.    We immediately agreed that it was the BEST museum because of the kids center!  We checked Megan, Luke and Matthew into the FREE kids center.  Their new French grandma was so excited to have them come play and spent the next hour and a half helping them with art projects: flowers made out of plastic bottles.  It was wonderful.

While they were playing away, we went with Grandma and Grandpa, Ryan, Katie and Emily into the first 30 minute D-Day film and then into a museum section of pre-WWII.  At 12:30 we picked up the kids from the play center and went to the Museum’s cafeteria for great sandwiches, pasta and cookies.  Then we dropped off Emily, Megan, Luke and Matthew back at the play center to see the exhibit on the Battle of Normandy and another D-Day movie.  It was really a great way to learn about the Battle of Normandy and prep ourselves for the things and places we would be over the next couple of days.
