Last two Weeks…

Kids in School. 1:00 Katie’s 7th grade ice cream social (Katie and NJHS in charge)
Chris’ last day of work.
6:00 appointment to show house – at 5:00 they cancelled. Spend all day sorting, organizing and mopping.
Ryan’s last day of soccer practice – Just for fun -- Coaches and Seniors against rest of team… Coaches and seniors won of course!
YW/YM – Ryan and Scouts prepare for Eagle Court next week. Katie take art class from Sara and Sister Tillett in Young Womens.

Kids in School. 8:00 Chris picks up OUTPROCESSING PAPERS. Luke, Matt and I tag along for a day of errands.
8:30 – 9:30 – Emily and Megan have BOOK CAFÉ at school. So cute!

10:00 – Out-processing stuff, errands, pick up dental records, take back library books, pick up and send mail at the post office, pay Lunch Accounts at the Shoppette, return BBQ gas container, drop off garbage and recycling, go to Globus for German sandwiches for lunch, print off Scout pictures for Eagle Court, pick up Emily and Megan from Choir Practice and Katie from NJHS at 4:00.
Spent the night packing what will fit in suitcases for the 2 1/2 month summer and what will go in last ‘household goods' shipment – moved all items for the latter into the family room.
Chris and I watched Safe Haven.

Chris off to do garbage/recycling drop off, and out-processing stuff. Boys play make believe. I organize and do laundry.
Spend the evening with our wonderful German neighbors! Delicious BBQ brats, chicken, fresh home made brochen, garlic cream sauce for chicken, potato salad, pasta salad, tomato/mozzarella salad. We introduced them to Root Beer Floats. They’ve never heard of it. Talked and played in their backyard until late. Nice weather (which has been the exception this spring).

Wake up at the crack of dawn to pull all the sheets off the beds and start washing. Fold and bag blankets. Everything is ready to go for second shipment and temporary furniture pickup. Chris finally calls and the second shipment has been overlooked and not booked!!
12:00 High School Closing Ceremony and Party. Ryan attended but Chris and I missed due to moving.
Megan off to the Schwetzengen Palace and Gardens for 2nd Grade fieldtrip.
Emily and Megan Choir Practice after school.
6:00 Ryan’s High School Soccer Banquet. 5 kids go to Yvonne’s house for a pizza party.
Drive to Schwedelbach to spend the weekend with the Chuggs.

SLEEP IN.
Follow the Flakes to the Dinosaur Park – great Picnic!
Head back to the Flakes house for the tour and a great BBQ with the Chuggs. Dominion, Videos, Sad goodbyes.

Drive back to Heidelberg for last full 3 hour block of church.
Back to the Chuggs house for dinner.
Over to the Stake Center for the Seminary Graduation. Ryan receives the President’s Award.

Drive back to PHV and check into Guest Housing. 4 joining apartments … for last 10 days.

7:00 Ward BBQ and activities at the Burger King Park

Chris and I at the house. Household baggage picked up. Final cleaning done.
10:30 Katie went to the Closing Ceremony for Heidelberg Middle School 11:45 Picnic and games – we wanted to make it but had to be at the house cleaning.
Chris and I off to start cleaning and detailing the van.
5:30 met everyone to eat at Dorfshank for one last dinner before the Nelsons left. Delicious flammkuchen, herb butter steak, fried potatoes and German salad. Great conversation… lots of laughs.

10:00 Closing Ceremony for Patrick Henry Elementary School. Emily and Megan sang on the stage and were so good! They stayed for the Picnic and games. Katie skipped school to come to the ceremony and then babysat Elisabeth, Luke and Matt so we could go out to eat with the gals.
Went out for lunch with the gals at our favorite Schwetzingen salad place. Melissa got us all mustache scarfs and funny glasses.

Headed to K-town for the BYU Ballroom Dance Performance. Such a fun show. Said goodbye to many friends!

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL for the kids… 10:30 Dismissal. Middle School and High School out at 11:00. Wahoo!!!!
Make a picnic lunch and eat it at the park with all the kids and Melissa, Megan and Danielle. Fun!
1:00 Meet with landlords and military housing representative at our Sankt Leon home to walk through together and finalize move out. Got all of our deposit back in a check and deposited it in the bank the same day!!! Awesome.

Went across the street and said goodbye to Sylvie and Joe. Cried. So sad!
Megan, Emily and Katie went to girls goodbye party with Ally, Brooklyn and Lindsey.
Then Katie went to her school friends goodbye party with Emily, Rebecca, Mercedes and Jamie.
Ryan hung out with Mark, Tate, Ben and others to play soccer, eat pizza and play games.
Chris and I took Matt and Luke out to dinner at Goldener Falcon downtown Heidelberg. A perfect last German meal on a beautiful night. Cheese spatzle and German salad, European Orange Fanta and spargel soup!! So much fun.

Breakfast at the hotel. In the van by 8:50 on our way to Burg Eltz. Hiked down to the castle, took a tour, ate a German lunch, hiked back up.

Drove to the Chuggs house. Played games. Went out to Thai place with Jared and Geneva. Back home for brownies and ice cream and to watch the slideshow they made for us of all the pictures our of trips and outings together the last two years. Said goodbye at midnight. Cried the whole way home.

SLEPT IN.
1:30 Last Services for the Heidelberg Ward… just Sacrament Meeting – Seminary kids speak, including RYAN. Then a pot luck luncheon. Stayed late to say goodbye to everyone. Left the church at 6:00pm.

Got together with friends to chat at our hotel and eat pie until late. Said goodbye to the Gillespies.

Turned in our Honda Odyssey to be shipped back to the states. We’ll see it in 2 months. Passed inspection on the first try!!! Yeah.
Went over to the Aston’s house to help them clean for the afternoon.
Dinner at the Gyros stand with Petersons and Astons. Said goodbye to Brittany!!!

Kids played at the park all day with the Astons – they love living so close!
Borrowed Sam’s car to do some errands – got my hair cut from Maria downtown Heidelberg.
Sam, Melissa, Chris and I played Ticket to Ride on the tables by the park. Lots of chatting!

Did laundry, and packed.
Played at the park.
Went out to dinner just Sam, Melissa, Chris and I to the Schwetzegen Salad Place. Sat out on the square in front of the restaurant. Beautiful evening. Delicious hot chicken goat cheese salads.
Kids played with the Astons all night. Said goodbye at Midnight and cried. We’ll miss them so much!

Woke up at 3:30am. On the shuttle at 4:15am. Checked in in Frankfurt at 5:30am. Left on the 8:00am flight. Flew to Chicago and then flew to Salt Lake City. Great flights. No problems except that the boys drank so many free in-flight drinks that they had to pee every 10 minutes. We flew Lufthansa which meant we had our own movie screens, good food and even a little sleep on the flight. Awesome.
