BYU Football Road trip
We left Thursday right after school and used our points for a Marriott just past Grand Junction. Smartest thing we’ve ever done. BYU’s game was Friday night and we were excited to get there early for a whole lot of Cougar fun. Ryan drove a lot – trying to get some hours logged for his 50 practice hours needed for his license. The kids were thrilled to stay in a hotel and even more thrilled with the free hotel breakfast. Then we were back on the road headed for Provo.
The Provo Tabernacle on it’s way to becoming a Provo Temple…
We met Marilee and kids at the bookstore and shopped for Royal Blue BYU gear and then hung out on campus for a while.
We walked into the Marriott Center and happened upon Tyler Haws practicing on the basketball court. Chris was pretty excited. We watched him practicing three pointers for a while and then got a picture with him. He’s awesome. A definite highlight of our BYU day!!
We met up with friends who set up a full tailgating spread for us – so nice of them. But before we ate, we took the kids plus Tenley and her little brother down to the Stadium for the Cougar Walk… where the football players walk into the Stadium.
They handed out #9 McMahon jerseys before the game since they were retiring his number and including him in the BYU Hall of Fame. Fun to see that!
We lined up and waited for them to come. It was pretty exciting to see and high five the players.
Back with the Nortons we ate while the kids played football and made up BYU cheers. Chris’ parents and Brian met us for some food and the game.
It’s so fun to be in the BYU Stadium!!
As exciting as the Stadium was and as much fun as it was to be there… (note the picture of Chris after our first touchdown) it was quite a devastating game. Not only did we lose to Utah State 20 - 35 but our quarterback (and Heisman contender), Taysom Hill suffered a broken leg during the game and will be out for the rest of the season. Horrible news. It was such a disappointment.
