Canadian/New England Cruise: Prince Edward Island
We arrived at the Port of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island at 8:00am and after breakfast at the Lido, we got off the ship and took a taxi to pick up our van. We headed to the north end of the island and stopped at the first lighthouse we could see.
We headed along the coast and stopped in North Rustico Harbour to look around.
Next stop was to Green Gables… which was the site which inspired the author L. M. Montgomery to write Anne of Green Gables. My kids and I watched all the movies again before my trip – which was so fun. Everywhere on the Island felt like the setting of one of the film’s scenes. I was imagining Anne and Gilbert everywhere. Fun to be there with my Mom since she’s the one who introduced me to the movies!
Even though this wasn’t the actual house they filmed the movie in, the rooms were furnished to the time period and it was fun to walk through.
From the house we headed down into the Haunted Woods for a stroll. No fainting occurred.
Loved seeing little Harbor sheds and boats everywhere we went.
My favorite scenic view was French River.
Cape Road Lighthouse
We followed some crazy instructions to find a certain spot on the north coast which had the ‘most photographed stretch of beach on Prince Edward Island’… well, that was a waste of time. Honestly, not sure where that came from.
Here we are following a grassy trail to the beach.
And there it is… the most photographed spot on the island… (I think not) …but I could imagine Anne writing on these bluffs and having her papers fly all around, or her and Diana standing together staring out into the ocean. It helps to view all places on Prince Edward Island as part of a movie set.
The next stop was a pretty exciting one. Cow’s Creamery for CANADA’S BEST ICE CREAM. And it was definitely the best. So good.
We took our van back to the car rental place and took a taxi back to Charlottetown where we walked around for our half hour left. Loved this St. Dunstan’s Basilica.
And then back to the port.
Dinner was one of the best of the week. Most of us ordered two entrees. Pot roast and Crab Cakes for me. And for dessert – Peach Crisp.
We had a mostly overcast day – nice to see the sun peek through for a sunset, which we enjoyed on the 11th deck after dinner. I love cruising.
