Coventry and Warwick Castle

Coventry Cathedral

We drove 2 and half hours from York to Coventry for a quick stop to see this old Coventry Cathedral. The original St Michael's Cathedral in Coventry was built between the late 14th century and early 15th century. It now stands ruined, bombed almost to destruction during the massive attack on the city by German bombers on the night of November 14th, 1940. Fun to stop here for a few minutes and wander around.

Then back in the van for a quick 15 minute ride to the Warwick Castle.

The Warwick Castle

We loved the tour of the inside of the Warwick Castle. Such beautiful and ornate bedrooms, living rooms, hallways and ballrooms.

The Bowman at Warwick Castle

One of the highlights of visiting Warwick Castle was learning from the expert Bowman who showcased his skill and the techniques used centuries ago to protect the fortress from invading armies. He was terrific and it was so fun to watch.

We also really enjoyed the working trebuchet model based on original designs from the 13th and 14th centuries. Seeing fireballs launched through the sky was pretty spectacular!

The Bowman taught us that a thumbs up signal came from fields of bowmen who had readied their bows.

It was a beautiful day to walk around the castle grounds. Like always, we enjoyed climbing to the highest tower and checking out the views down below.

After leaving the Warwick Castle we drove another 14 minutes to Stratford-upon-Avon to check out our first Cotswold City and then to our cute Cotswold home.
