Matthew’s baptism was such a special event.  Matt shared his special day with his cousin, Derek.  It was great to be together.   Emily said the opening prayer. Lindsey played piano and Grandma Johnson led the music. Derek's grandma gave the talk on baptism.

Matthew was beaming and grinned from ear to ear the entire morning. It was so cute!

Chris baptized Matt in a very warm font of water – in the church in Farmington, Utah.  So warm that the glass in front was all steamy.  I’m so grateful for a husband who honors his priesthood and has been able to baptize all six of our children.  Uncle Scott was a witness for his baptism.

While Matt and Dad were changing we played a slideshow of Derek and then one of Matt. And then when they were back in the room, we played a special video message from Ryan (on his mission) to Matt and Derek , which was so great. Fun for everyone to be able to see him.  Then Katie gave the talk on The Holy Ghost and she did SO GREAT!!  It was awesome…

Hello, I am Katie.  Matt’s sister.  I’m so happy to be here because my brother and cousin Derek (fav. cousin) got baptized and are about to receive the Holy Ghost.  I am going to talk to you guys about the Holy ghost.  The Holy Ghost has many names and is also know as the Spirit or the Comforter.

You boys are about to be confirmed.  This is when your dad and some other guys put their hands on your head and confirm you and give you the Holy Ghost.  This means that you will always be able to have the Holy Ghost with you.  You can feel the HG before you are baptized – I’m sure you guys have felt the Spirit before… even today – but when you receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, you can have the spirit with you ALL THE TIME.

Our brother Ryan (most of you know he’s on a mission in Albania) gave Matt a bunch of activities to help him prepare for his baptism.  He had to do some alone and some with different family members.  So me and Matt had to talk about the Holy Ghost and do a little activity.  It was really special.  For the activity Matt had to jump as high as he could on the ground. (Wanna show them?)  And then he had us jump on the tramp.  Sorry I don’t have a trampoline with me but you can imagine that we jumped WAY higher on the trampoline.  Ryan said that the trampoline is like the Holy Ghost.  We can jump way higher and do so much more with the Holy Ghost.

The HG helps us with three things:

  1. PEACE and COMFORT  The HG can help us feel peace and comfort us when we need it.  Sometimes when I’m super stressed out because of school/tests, I will feel peace.  The HG gives me peace and reminds me that Jesus Christ knows exactly how I’m feeling and helps me know its all going to be ok.
  2. GUIDE/WARN  “The holy ghost can guide you in your decisions and protect you from dancer.  Read 2 Nephi 32:5  Derek and Matthew are entering in by the way and about to receive the Holy Ghost.  And then the HG can help them in their lives and show them what they need to do.  Cool promise!!
  3. TESTIFIES of TRUTH  Read Moroni 10:5  The HG helps us know that the church is true.  This is where we get our testimonies from.

The Holy Ghost makes me much happier and protects me in my life.  I’m so grateful for this blessing!

Then Derek and Matt received the Holy Ghost. Both blessings were amazing. I really loved that Dad blessed Matt to be a good communicator. That he would be able to communicate with Heavenly Father and also his parents.    It was awesome!

The Cooks came to the Baptism and it was sure fun to see them. The girls were thrilled to be together. Even Matt was excited to see Sophie and when we were taking pictures we noticed that he wasn't there, since he and Sophie had gone outside. It was pretty funny that we were doing group pictures without the main guy! We went to lunch  with the Cooks after the baptism.  So fun to catch up with them.
