New York Girls Trip–Lower Manhattan, Chelsea Market and Wicked
Chocolate croissants for breakfast again and then over to the Subway. The girls were excited about the WICKED poster since that’s what we were seeing that night and they could hardly wait. We took the Subway from Times Square area to the south end of Manhattan and got some Citi Bikes so we could ride around and see a few things. It was really fun!
We rode through Battery Park, stopped to see the Statue of Liberty in the Distance and continued on to the Brooklyn Bridge.
Close to the Brooklyn Bridge we found this cute cobblestone area– Historic Front Street.
’This area is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the City with its roots going back to the mid-18th century. The neighborhood looks much like it did 200 years ago and retains the feel of a working waterfront community.
Megan led us back through the city streets. We parked and ate at Le Pain Quotidien – which means ‘the daily bread’. Such a cute place and the food was really good!
We finished lunch and headed over to the 9-11 Memorial, which was really moving. The memorials are really well designed and beautiful. It was neat talking to the girls about what we remembered about that day since they were babies or not even born when it happened. Katie was one year old. I haven’t been back to New York since just a few months before 9-11 so it was neat to see the memorial.
We took the Subway up to Greenwich Village and walked up Hudson Street. Loved all the side streets and brownstone buildings.
We loved Chelsea Market. Such cute shops and restaurants. We found so many cute bags and pictures, and cards and so many cute Rifle Paper Co. products. : ) Then the girls and I got Gelato because they had my favorite European flavor – Amarena Cherry – and it was every bit as good as the Gelato in Europe. Yum!
After the market we picked up some Citi Bikes again and rode all the way back to our hotel. Seriously, so fun!
Back at our hotel we had an hour to relax and get ready. At 7:30 we left our room and headed to the Gershwin Theater to see WICKED. Definitely a highlight of the weekend. I keep saying that, but there were many many highlights! The girls LOVED it! Room service back at the hotel at 11:45 and more late night talking to complete the day. : )
