Chicago Day One - Katie's Senior Trip

When dad got home from work on Wednesday night we headed to Colorado Springs for the airport. So nice to fly from the Colorado Springs airport on a nonstop flight to Chicago. We almost missed our flight, however, because they kept announcing the flight was to Orlando and we were sitting around the corner and couldn’t see everybody getting on the flight. Luckily they called our names over the intercom. Yikes.  Lesson learned. We got into Chicago late and took the train from the airport into the city and walked a couple blocks to our hotel.

Yolk

Thursday morning we headed out into the city and found a fun restaurant for breakfast called ‘YOLK’.

Downtown Chicago

River Boat Tour

The river City Architecture Tour was really cool. We sailed up the Chicago River and back checking out the cool buildings and taking pictures. The volunteer tour guide was pretty excited about the tour and said if you need to go to the bathroom you better do it now because this is an ‘intense tour!’  We laughed about that.

Back at the Hotel

We headed back to the hotel to get warmer jackets. Chicago is windy! We really love the place we’re staying. Very modern and fun and in such a good location for everywhere we want to go.

This is the view from our hotel room.

The Magnolia Bakery

We had fun trying out the Magnolia Bakery. Dad and Katie tried some kind of vanilla custard and loved it.

Giordano’s World Famous Deep Dish Pizza

After Millennium Park we headed down to Navy Pier — a cool Pier jetting into Lake Michigan with a a Ferris Wheel, shops and restaurants and a great view of the Chicago skyline. We ate cheesy garlic bread and deep dish pizza at Giordano’s  and when Dad almost paid with his hotel room key I lost it and started laughing uncontrollably. A funny memory.

Food gave my tired legs more energy.  We walked up and down the Pier and took pictures of the view and then walked down the Magnificent Mile stopping in some stores to look around. Dad did most of the shopping looking for Chicago Cubs gear and Katie and I sat exhausted and waited for him in the Nike store. A total role reversal.

Then we took a couple of night shots and made our way back to the Renaissance Hotel.
