Traveling to Bangkok

We woke up at 2:50am and left the house at 3:15am — and so of course we started our journey on very little sleep. We drove an hour and twenty minutes, parked, and then shuttled to the Denver airport.  Checking in and getting through security was quick even though there was a huge line — thanks to our military ID’s which put us in the TSA pre-check line. Our flight from Denver to Seattle left at 6:25 AM. It was an empty flight so Chris was able to get an exit row with lots of legroom and we both slept for most of the flight - despite the freezing temperatures. Once in Seattle, Chris and I walked for 40 minutes lapping the terminal several times. Nice to get a little bit of exercise. Then we met up with our friends and waited for our next flight. We left Seattle at 10:30am on Friday and 11 hours later we landed in Seoul Korea on a Saturday afternoon. We all sat close to each other which was nice.  11 hours felt like such a long time. We watched movies and slept off and on but mostly I listened to my audio book and played Tetris on the airplane gaming system. Then I got Chris, Doug, Jared and Geneva hooked as well - although no one could beat my high scores. I was #2-8 on the leaderboard. Whoever was H. R. Had me beat and try as I could, I couldn’t beat them. We flew Korean Air and the service was great.  The announcements were in Korean and then English and the Asian stewardesses wore light blue scarfs around their necks, and tight buns with the cutest stiff bow on top. Chris tried the Korean lunch (of course he did) complete with a print out of instructions on how to eat it. He said it was good but his standards are different than mine. I tolerated the food - in fact I skipped one meal.  My body just wanted to sleep rather than eat again. The Seoul airport was quite something. Likely one of the biggest and fanciest airports I’ve ever seen.  I slept on a bench for about 40 minutes, then Geneva and I went for a walk to explore. Fun to see the super fancy shops and run in to robots that were roaming around. It was fun to find some Cath Kidston stuff — one of our favorite London brands.  Our layover was two hours and we spent the last half hour sitting around talking, telling stories and laughing. It’s fun to travel together. I could barely walk straight at this point so nearly everything was funny. Of course everything Doug says really is funny — even when we’re not jet lagged. By this time it was 3:30am (Denver Time). We boarded our last flight at 7:30 pm Seoul time, baffled that our last leg would take another 6 hours. The distance from LA to New York City. Even though we were supposed to try and ‘stay awake’ during this flight, no one could. We were exhausted. At the end of the flight we grabbed our bags and found our way to a cute Thai lady holding a sign with our name. Two big vans from The Marriott were waiting for us — which was so nice. Grateful we didn’t have to figure out transportation and just be driven straight to our place.

The Marriott Marquis Queens Park Hotel was so nice. Thank you Brian. We checked in and went straight to our rooms - which were suites... and very upscale. There was even a bowl of fruit waiting for us in the living room.
