St. George with Friends
Kanarraville Canyon Falls Hike
Wednesday at 12:00 we met the Whites, Chuggs and Breinholts in Cedar City for lunch at Costa Vida. It was so fun to see them and actually hug friends again.
We had reserved times for an afternoon hike to the Kanarraville Canyon Falls - a slot canyon surrounded by red rock cliffs. It was a gorgeous hike and so fun to be getting caught up with friends.
Love the mix of green trees, red rocks and blue sky. It was perfect weather for hiking.
Love this picture of all of us.
At 1.6 miles in, we got to the first waterfall and metal ladder. (below) It was so fun to climb up next to the waterfall and take pictures of everyone climbing up.
The second waterfall had us climbing right up through the water. So fun!
The rope ladder on the third waterfall had been washed out so we figured that was the end of the hike. But Doug was determined to make it work and ended up grabbing the robe and figuring out a way to the top — getting soaked in the process. It was fun to watch. Next time we’ll hike even further.
Arcadia House and Pool
We rented such a nice house in the resort community of Arcadia in Santa Clara. The house was perfect with bedrooms and bathrooms for everyone. So great! On the way into town we picked up Thai food from Benja’s and then headed to the nearby park to play some Pickle Ball.
The house backed up to community green space and then the pool, which was fantastic — AND… it was open. They had three sessions 9-12, 12:30 - 5:00 and 5:30 - 9:00 with a limit of how many people they let in and in-between sessions had everyone leave so they could wipe everything down. It was so great to enjoy some sunshine, lazy river and even the waterslide. I definitely want to take the kids back here.
Adventures in Veyo
The guys headed out to golf at Copper Rock, the girls headed over to the pool and we met back at the house to eat delicious greek food from Mad Pita out on the porch. Then we headed to Gunlock but the reservoir had been stopped so that crowds (such as ourselves) wouldn’t be heading to gather for some cliff jumping. We decided to head further up the road to Veyo - a small town where we found a great camping spot and had fun crossing over the stream and wandering around.
Such a cool spot to wander around. The kids would love it here!
Veyo Pies and Bakery
Then over to the famous Veyo Pies place to pick out some pies. Only 4 people were allowed in at a time so we took turns heading in to pick flavors. We ended up with Volcano - (graham cracker crust, sweet cream cheese, butterscotch, chocolate and whipped cream) Chocolate Cream and Banana Cream.
The Rope Swing
Doug spotted a rope swing on the way and was determined to stop on the way back. It was a sketchy looking pond but he had no reservations jumping right in. Then Chris, Terri and Geneva joined him. They pulled up Doug’s truck so they could jump from it and Doug barely made it without scraping up his butt. It was close but pretty funny. Lots of funny memories!
Upon return we headed to the pool again, the boys headed to the pickle ball courts, and we sat outside on the porch for hours.
Shopping with the Girls
The boys played Copper Rock twice and Geneva, Missy, Terri and I started the day off at the pool and then headed to Mad Pita for Terri’s meatball Pita and then some shopping, which was so fun. First time inside a store in months. Half of the mall was opened up to shopping and workers had masks on but almost everyone else didn’t. Utah’s Corona cases and deaths are really low right now. We still took a picture of our masks just to commemorate this period of time!
When we met up with the boys we headed to the Cliffside Restaurant overlooking St. George. Such great food and a fun venue.
Our evenings were spent sitting out on the table outside, playing some Jackbox games, watching some hilarious Jim Gaffigan stand up and doing some Doug tricks. Lots of fun.
Girls Hike in Leeds
Saturday the boys headed to golf The Ledges and we opted for a hike in Leeds — so many other hikers who had the same idea as us— It was perfect weather to do some hiking, climbing and wading through canyon waters. Geneva and I decided not to bring our cameras and we were able to be a little more adventurous that way. Pictures thanks to Terri! So fun being with these ladies.
Shakes at Ice Berg
The boys had so much fun golfing every day. They golfed Copper Rock on Thursday. Copper Rock twice on Friday plus 9 holes at Dixie Red Hills. and then Ledges on Saturday. They sure love their golf. The boys met us after our hike at Ice Berg to get shakes. I ordered a Lemon Custard after trying Terri’s and it was so good. New favorite! Then we headed back to the pool and enjoyed the waterslides and lazy river.
Pickle Ball
There were 6 pickle ball courts close to the house but they were BUSY so we had to wait to get a court. It was so fun to play together. Geneva and I taught Missy and Terri how to play the first night, the boys headed to play on the second night and then on the last night we played as couples. Jared and Geneva against Chris and I. We played four games and it was pretty competitive - which was fun. Then we watched the guys play and then we met up with Pete at Angelica’s for sweet pork quesadillas. So good! Definitely a new favorite.
As we parted on Sunday morning then Geneva texted us this cute poem they wrote about our weekend:
Roses are red,
The guys necks are too.
Hiking was epic
and eating out at restaurants was NOT taboo.
I’m glad Terri got her meatballs
And Doug had no laptop to juggle.
The Johnsons beat the Chugg at Pickle ball
Without a lot of stuggle.
Drawful was… well, awful
with this awkward Picasso clan
BUT giving birth to meat sausages on water slides
is where we earned our fans.
Good times and memories are always made
I hope we’re all still friends in the next Pandemic with masks homemade.
Cuz there’s no other place that we’d rather be
Then sharing crazy times with you friends, naturally.
