Better Ingredients

In May of 2019 I was led to the Instagram account Just Ingredients from my friend Mindy. Because of Luke’s recent diagnosis I was already in a place to reexamine everything and I feel in love with the simple yet profound way she talked about whole ingredients in food, cleaning products, and beauty products and started on my journey to a home filled with just ingredients instead of harmful toxins. I’m excited about each new thing I switch. Lots of work to go, but here’s what we’ve accomplished so far…

  • Organic Foods

Not all of these are perfect choices but we’re doing better at really looking at ingredients and wanting more organic foods and less artificial fillers.

  • Redesigned Recipe Book

This one has been in the works for a year, but now with a need to evaluate which recipes are Gluten Free and which aren’t… I finally got it done. I have categories for GF and non GF. I also printed out several more recipes of things made with whole organic gluten-free ingredients.

  • Silver Fern Probiotics

Also a recommendation from Just Ingredients. Chris has some too but these are mine and Luke’s for now.

  • Hand Soap

This was the first switch I made to something with better ingredients. No more Bath and Body soaps for me. I use half Castilla soap and half water and then add 10 drops of essential oils for the smell.

  • Branch Basics Cleaning Supplies

I’m excited about my switch to Branch Basics. With the Concentrate I made All-purpose cleaner, Bathroom cleaner and Glass cleaner. Later in the year I purchased another kit so that I can have all the spray bottles in my bathroom as well. Now I will just have to buy the Concentrate to refill. So happy that they are made of clean ingredients. I also got rid of the dryer sheets and purchased these wool dryer balls.

  • Monat Hair Care

I’ve heard of Monat for years and finally called up my cousin to tell me more about them. Being made of just good ingredients was the thing that I was really excited about. I ordered some Shampoo, Conditioner, Moisture Masque (another conditioner) and then received a tube of gel for free (which Matt loves!) I’ve been really happy with the product… especially since I can now go longer between washing my hair. About every 4 days instead of every other day. So great.

  • Nubian Heritage Lotion

I’ve had lotions from Bath and Body for years, but after learning that they had a lot of bad ingredients, I decided to make the switch. I tried out several lotions with better ingredients recommended on Just Ingredients and fell in love with this one… Mango Butter but really it smells like an Orange Creamsicle. Love the hand cream container, the feel of the lotion and the smell. The Body Lotion is too hard to get out of the container, but the hand cream works perfectly. Waiting for it to come in stock again to grab some more.

  • Just Ingredients Face Serum

Love this face ‘lotion and moisturizer’. Great scent. I bought it for the girls too to use too. Hopefully will help with acne.

  • Laundry Detergent

I used up all the rest of my other detergent and then switched to Branch Basics for a while and now I’m trying out BAKING SODA! Hoping I like it because it is clean and cheap!
