St. George - Water Canyon Trail
Rob and Lindsey had the idea to head just outside of Hildale to Water Canyon Trailhead. It was just about an hour drive to get there from Grandma’s house in St. George. The trail was rocky and sandy but the kids had no trouble with it. They were just glad to be together.
It was really a fun hike.
Ryan found a cool tree and waited for us at the end of the trail.
Coming down into the ravine was beautiful. It opened up into small waterfalls and a red muddy creek bed with gorgeous green trees growing amid the rocks. Such a cool view.
Matt immediately found a section of water that fit his little body lying down and got right in. Even though it was freezing cold water he didn’t even hesitate. Love his fun brave personality.
Above Megan and Matt pause on a slippery rock waterfall on their way up to explore the upper ravine. The kids loved this whole area. What a great place.
We saw several hikers continuing on and were intrigued with the steep narrow passage on the side of the rock. The teens quickly headed up there and Chris and I followed with the boys. Such a cool trail up.
The third level was just as cool. Less water — just the remains of heavy rainfall pooled in the corners of the rock — and more sand. Once the little cousins finally followed us up, they stayed and played in the sand for hours.

The kids found a fun little crevice to climb up and into. To get to the top they needed some help and some twisty maneuvering. Teens have to be watched just as carefully as toddlers. : )
Every direction inticed the kids to climb and explore. Ryan, Tyler and Spencer on top of a huge boulder in the middle of the third ravine area.
Tyler and Emily climbing around and having fun.
While everyone else was playing in the sand, Chris, Ryan, Luke, Matt and I headed up even further and hiked until we reached the sun again. Beautiful! John and Kayla hiked with us and eventually Matt and I followed them down. Ryan, Chris and Luke continued up the trail enacting scenes of Legolas, Gimli and Aragorn running through the countryside in search of Merry and Pippin.
Climbing down the steep rocky pathway…
…and then one more rest on the cool tree before heading back on the path.
