Wedding Trip - Exploring Vancouver and Portland

Arriving in Portland

We flew from Denver to Portland on Wednesday late afternoon and landed at 6:00pm, picked up our ‘crazy expensive rental van’ and then headed across the Columbia River to the new Residence Inn in Vancouver, Washington. We’ve done a lot of driving back and forth to Utah lately so all of us were excited to fly! — and the boys were SO excited to stay in a hotel. Pretty Exciting!

Dinner at Lindo Mexico

We checked in to our two hotel rooms and then walked across the street to meet Ryan, Cassie and some of Cassie’s family at one of their favorite Mexican restaurants for dinner. Chris met Tyna for the first time and we were introduced to Tyna’s best friend Mariann, Cassie’s sister, Katie and Katie’s best friend, Jess and another sister, Courtney and her husband, Tyler and their kids.

It was fun to finally be here ready to celebrate Ryan and Cassie, get to know Cassie’s family better and check out Portland and Vancouver.

Seize the Bagel

Thursday morning we met up with Ryan and Cassie and family at their favorite bagel shop for breakfast. Chris and I followed Cassie’s lead with a cinnamon sugar bagel with vanilla cream cheese and Ryan tried a bagel sandwich. So good! Once again, fun to visit with Tyna and Cassie’s family. Chris and Cassie’s brother in law, Eric enjoyed talking about Radiology and future jobs.

Waterfront Park in Vancouver

We really enjoyed walking along the Vancouver Waterfront. Gorgeous views of the Columbia River, beautiful flowers and perfect temperature.

Washington Park Rose Garden

Cassie took us to the Washington Park Rose Garden. It was fun to walk through the rose bushes picking out our favorite flowers.

Salt & Straw Ice Cream

The most important stop of all of the Portland - Washington sightseeing was visiting Salt & Straw. Even though we were hungry for lunch we opted to eat ice cream instead. Salt and Straw is known for it’s unusual flavors such as Olive Oil and Honey and Lavender. Chris’ favorite was Pear and Blue Cheese — it was so good! I enjoyed a half scoop of two of their more normal flavors: Chocolate Brownie and Salted Caramel. I think we might be coming back here tomorrow!!

Cassie’s Bridal Shower

After ice cream we headed back to the hotel. Cassie went and got her nails done with her mom and sisters and then Megan and I joined them for Cassie’s Bridal Shower, hosted by Brinnley Christofferson. It was SO cute! Loved the strawberry, pink and gingham red theme. It was fun. We picked up plates of food and sat at the outdoor tables to eat and visit. Then Brinnley gave each of us a Minnie Mouse and Captain America stick and had us answer questions about the Bride and Groom. It was darling! Then we watched Cassie open her presents. So happy to be here to celebrate with her!

While the girls were celebrating, Chris took Ryan, Luke and Matt out to Spaghetti Factory for dinner to enjoy a ‘boys night out’ - but at the last minute Grandma Johnson and Carol ended up meeting up with them after they flew in. So fun to have them here!
