Teenage Pictures Age 16 to 17–Chris

“My Junior year just ended last week. It was a pretty great year, along with my sophomore year. Last year about February, I had Heather Jensen (the girl I fantasized over earlier in this journal) wrapped around my finger. But I dumped her because I can definitely do better now. In fact, almost all those girls I talked about earlier would love to get their hands on me, but no way. I have moved on. The only girl from that group I still like is Micah Silcox. I seriously would love to marry her. She would be the best wife and mother. We always talk about our future marriage, half-joking, half-serious. I hope it happens someday. We just had our yearbook day last week, and there are so many girls I could have, but I don’t know who I want to go out with. I don’t know how many girls I have kissed - a lot. More than I can remember. All of my cousin Jennifer’s friends want me when I visit her. Same with my cousin Genene’s friends.

School has been going okay. My 9th grade year, I screwed up by GPA. I got two 3.3s and two 3.5s. But I have raised my average GPA back up to a 3.7. I need to raise it higher, though, so I can be on the all-state academic team next year in soccer.

Work is okay. Today was my first day this year working for my Dad’s company, All Weather Waterproofing. My cousin Ryan is working with me because he is trying to get funds for his mission in 5 weeks. His older brother Jason is already on a mission right now. It is very weird to see my childhood playmates and best friends leave on missions. We had the best times as kids. Unfortunately, we have drifted apart over the years. I miss them. But I know we will always have a special relationship. Jason and Ryan are big idols to me. I know I will follow their example and go on a mission myself. I love those guys. But back to work. I worked at Arby’s this spring. It was okay, I guess. And I still mow lawns and work for All Weather in the summertime. Most kids have no penny to their name when they are my age, but I have over $2500 in the bank and $200 saved in my room. Quite a lot for how old I am.”  Chris’ Journal June1990

Christmas 1990

Christmas 1990, 17 years old.  This was a great Christmas.  I used that TV all the way through Medical School, finally replacing it in 2002.  This was also the year we got Bojay.  He was a cute puppy.  Playing Risk with Dad, Uncle Greg, and cousin Greg.  I have always loved playing board games.

Summer 1991

I spent a lot of time at Hub and Leslie’s house as a teenager.  They were so fun to hang out with.  Hub and I worked out in the basement listening to Frank Sinatra and preparing ourselves to get buff enough to become Frank’s bodyguards.

School Dances

School dances were a big part of High School.  There was a dance almost every month and I don’t think I missed any of them once I turned 16.  The tuxedo pictures were for a school dance at American Fork High School.  I went to a few girls choice dances at other schools.

Spring Break 1991

For Spring Break in April 1991, we used my Grandma Polson’s Four Seasons timeshare at the Days Inn on the boulevard in St. George.  This trip was so much fun, a perfect way to celebrate the end of High School.  I loved this hotel.  We went here every Memorial Day weekend with the entire Polson family.  The golfing pictures were taken at Dixie Red Hills, our traditional golf course where I learned how to play the game growing up.

There was nothing better than Christmas Eve at Grandma Polson’s house.  We always had a great dinner that included ham, red jello, Delmar salad, and tons of goodies including green cornflake cookies with red hots.  We would just visit and get each other excited for Christmas.  When we were younger, we would always count and evaluate our presents under Grandma’s tree.  On the way home, we always counted Christmas lights, one side of the car versus the other side.

We always hung up our stockings and then had a fire on Christmas Eve.  Christmas morning presents in the basement.  The first year in our new house, we had our presents upstairs, but Christmas got so big (yes we were very spoiled) that we had to move to the basement tree in order to have room for everything.
