The Summer before my mission–Chris
July 1992 vacation to Southern California including Disneyland and Phantom of the Opera.
“The chicks have been great. I went out with some pretty cool girls like Nicole Ohllson. We went out for a few months. When I started at Westminster College, I walked into class the first day, picked out the best looking chick, and asked her out. Her name is Sara Hewitt and she was my girlfriend for about 7 months. We had a great time together but as school was coming to a close, I decided we should break up. She still wants me and thinks I am the one she is supposed to marry, but the longer I date other girls the more I think she is not the right one for me. I have dated some awesome girls the last couple months including the 2 Emily’s (Emily Maughn and Emily Wood) and the 3 Becky’s (Becky Vife, Becky Lovell, and Becky Wolfgram). But I really think I like Emily Wood and Becky Vife the most. We have done a few group dates up American Fork Canyon recently and I have taken both of those girls up there. When I took Emily Wood, I doubled with Chad Utley, Darren Burrup, Nate Mitchell, and Wes Barney. We cooked them steaks and potatoes and salad, with Peach cobbler for dessert. After dinner, we put our TV and VCR in the tent and used a generator to watch a movie. It was the most fun date I have ever been on. After we took our dates home, we drove back up and camped overnight. We are going to do it again soon.” Chris’ Journal June 14, 1992
“Last year, I worked at Chin-Wah. I was a bus boy for about 5 months. I worked at Eddie Bauer this past fall and through the Christmas season. That was an awesome job. I was the shoe king. The hours and the discount were excellent. I also worked for All Weather Waterproofing in the summers and a little bit during the school year. That has been a great job for me, because my Dad will always work with my schedule. I am now making $7.00/hour, and I really rake in the money.” Chris’ Journal June 14, 1992

“Today was a great day. I woke up and started packing for Silver Moccasin. I went to Jeremy Astle’s missionary farewell. He is going to Portugal. It was good but too long. He had 11 speakers and 3 musical numbers. Dane drove out and went with me to it. He is a good friend. I had to leave Jeremy’s early so I could go to Darren’s farewell. He is going to Athens, Greece. I played “More Holiness Give Me” for his program. Darren barely made it through his talk, he was crying so bad. He has such a strong spirit and testimony. He is such a good friend and a good example to me. I was definitely blessed by his friendship. I will miss him. We have been such good friends for so long that is is going to be strange not having him around. I love the guy. He is a stud. After his farewell, we went to his house and hit on all the chicks and ate a ton of food. There were a ton of hot girls there. Jill Hardcastle, Emily Maun, Kelly Arbon, etc. There are so many girls I want to take out. I am so glad I don’t have a girlfriend anymore. Sara is rad, but I like my life how it is right now. I had to say goodbye to Darren for good today since I am at Silver Moccasin.” Chris’ Journal June 14, 1992
Becky Lovell and her friend at Brett Barratt’s Mission farewell. I dated Becky at Westminster after I broke up with Sara. The second picture is Becky Wolfgram, a great friend from our annual Bear Lake vacations.

“These past few days have been sweet. I have done my best to make up for the lack of chicks at Silver Moccasin. I went out with Sara on Monday and I don’t know if there is anything more that I feel for Sara. I told her that and she took it bad. I talked to tons of chicks tonight at a party I went to on Wednesday. It was awesome.
This week was tough at work. We worked long hours but then we were able to quit for the week at 2:00 on Thursday. So it was worth it. Thursday night, Me and Chad and Nate went camping up American Fork canyon. It was so cool. We just chilled and ate hot dogs, chips, and marshmallows around the fire. And we just talked about everything. We even got out the scriptures and read 3 chapters. It was sweet.” Chris’ Journal July 1, 1992
“Tonight was Friday and I just barely got home off my date with Emily Wood. It was a blast. She is so cool and so hot. We doubled with Chad and Nikole, and Nate and Melissa. We ate at Training Table and then saw the movie Sister Act at the Redwood Drive-In. I had a lot of fun.” Chris’ Journal July 1, 1992
Date to Timpanogas Cave with Emily Wood. I doubled with Chad Utley who took Emily Hardcastle and Luke Johnson who took a date not pictured.

“I woke up Saturday morning to the weirdest news. Genene was on the phone and she told me she is getting married. I can’t believe it. She is marrying Clay smith, one of Jason’s friends. They came and visited us on Sunday night. It is the biggest trip that she will be married. She is the closest cousin to my age. I hope I am able to see her wedding. That would be rad.
Our family party on Saturday was pretty cool. Everyone was here and we had fun. Me and Jason took on all comers in Basketball and we killed everyone even though we had 1 less guy. Saturday night, me, Luke, Chad, and Nate went to the BYU 4th of July show. Me and Chad and Luke also snuck around the MTC for a while. On the drive back, we were stuck in horrible traffic for 1.5 hours and me and Chad were in the back of Nate’s truck just ripping on people through the small screen window the whole time. It was a blast.
Sunday night we visited the Speirs. They are a cool family. I also went to a Bishops Interview and told him I thought I was ready to go on a mission. He agreed so I am all ready to do it. I have a doctors appointment set up and everything. I think I am ready to just do it.” Chris’ Journal July 6, 1992

“Monday night, we went to Becky Vife’s house and about 20 of her hot friends showed up. We hung out with the hottest ones, Becky, Angel, Jen, and Kathy. We also saw Jen Lader and Jen Rodge and we are going out with them tomorrow.” Chris’ Journal July 23, 1992
With Becky Vife and Chad’s date, Mindy. Wes Barney, Luke Johnson, and Nathan Mitchell also brought dates. We all had to bring new dates this time since we recreated the exact same date as before.
“I have been working at Pocatello Idaho on a K-Mart up there. Chad got a job with All Weather also so we have been hanging out a ton. Pocatello was pretty cool and we made a lot of money, more than usual because we saved all our per diem money and we got travel time hours as well. We met some chicks up there, but they were pretty lame, and there is not much to do in Pocatello anyway.
I’ve been working on my mission papers. I have the doctor and dentist part done but there is something wrong with my pee. I have too much protein, so I have to do a 3rd test on it this weekend and then I have to see a specialist. I hope I am not unhealthy. And I hope it doesn’t stop me from going on a mission. We are also working at the MTC now, and that is getting me excited to go on a mission. But I guess we’ll see what happens.” Chris’ Journal July 23, 1992
Side note about these first two pictures. Shasta Black Cherry was probably my favorite drink growing up. It was a staple at Bear Lake every year.
“Right now I am camping with my family. We are up Big Cottonwood Canyon and it is sweet up here. I am having fun so far. We cooked tin foil dinners tonight and just hung out by the fire. I love camping. Chris’ Journal July 24, 1992
I have been watching Hubs house the last week. We party there every night and it is so fun to live there. Hub is in Arizona and Leslie moved to Minnesota for good. I can’t believe they are splitting up. I miss her, but I guess she needed a change. I hope everything works out for them. I almost lost my life Sunday night because I lost Kit Mandu, Hubs cat. But luckily, he wandered back to the house after carousing all night. I looked for him for a long time. I even put a leash on Pokie in the middle of the night and said let’s go find Kit. Pokie was very excited and I thought it was going to work, but he just took me on his normal run around the block. It obviously wasn’t a very good idea.” Chris’ Journal July 24, 1992
We surprised our parents with these sibling pictures that I “won”. It turned out that I only won the sitting fee so my parents ended up spending money on the pictures. It wasn’t the most successful anniversary present.

“We are still camping today up by Brighton ski resort. It was a pretty cool day. We went for a long hike up to Silver Lake and then to Twin Lakes. I took my own trail up a mountain to a peak, straight up and straight down. But it was very fun. We also played the board game “Hotels” twice and it is more fun than I expected. Right now, me and Nikole and Ashlyn are sitting up watching the coals in the fire. It is very beautiful up here. Grandma and Grandpa Polson came up and had dinner with us tonight. They are so great. I love living in the mountains. It is so awesome up here maybe I will just stay here.” July 24, 1992
