Spring Break - Cancun with Friends

Six families on a flight to Cancun together was super fun… at least it was for us… maybe not the people around us. Once we got onto the plane then the kids worked their magic to be able to trade seats and sit with friends. Matt was happy sitting with Preslee and Thane and right behind Sarah, Jane and Adria. Luke sat with Andrew and Megan sat with Lizzy. I had a window seat all to myself to sleep and read.

Once we gathered up all our luggage we met outside and were led to our shuttles. Jen and I took most of the teens with us. So fun.

We stayed at the Iberostar Paraiso Maya and really liked it. A huge resort with lots of different pools, a wave pool, lazy river, swim up bar and jungle pathways to the beach. We ended up having our home base be by the wave pool and from there the kids went in all directions. The rooms were quite big. We ended up pulling in a rollaway bed so Megan and I could have our own beds. Matt chose the couch. It was great.

Our first walk around the resort and then down to check out the beach and we came across a whole family of Coati. Seriously about 50 of them.

Our first night we enjoyed the buffet. There was a lot of different options and everyone found something they liked. It was great. A fantastic fruit bar, tacos, ice cream, sushi and strawberry mango daiquiris.

After dinner Amy and I sat for an hour and had a deep talk and then walked together for a while. Fun to be together.

I walked for an hour early Tuesday morning checking out our resort and the beach. So peaceful and quiet — with beautiful morning light.

Multiple times a day we’d go get a scoop of ice cream above the Swim up bar.

The kids loved the waterslides and the lazy river! Loved our day jumping between pools. The moms enjoyed a couple of relaxing laps around the lazy river too!

Luke and Andrew signed up for scuba lessons in the pool. What a cool experience! They loved it!

Meeting for dinner by the columns and wooden arches.

We took the kids to the buffet and ate a few appetizers ourselves and then headed to the Seafood Restaurant for a late adult dinner. I enjoyed my caesar salad and salmon. Matt made sure to start his meal with a chocolate ice cream cone.

Matt woke up early and went on a walk with me. I showed him the resort next door and we walked along the beach for a while.

Matt by the bar requesting his sixth or seventh Miami Vice of the day… and then Andrew hopping in for a picture.

Over to the buffet with the moms.

Fun to hang out at the beach with Luke. We brought our books and were sitting on the lounge chairs. Then Luke went and picked up some nachos from the beach stand and after eating most of them, put his plate on the table right by his head. Minutes later a coati snuck up right by his head and finished them off. It was so surprising!

Lots of playing in the sand, jumping in the waves and relaxing as the sun set.

Cute Lizzy

Heading back to the resort to get ready for dinner.

Another early morning walk… one of my favorite things to do at a resort.

Megan and Romney getting a drink.

Jon, Megan and I had lunch at the Italian restaurant for lunch. Then out to the beach. The skies were dark but it didn’t ever rain. Luke spent his time digging and digging a big hole in the sand.

For dinner we had a late night reservation for the whole group at the Japanese Grill. The kids sat at a huge table together and watched the chef prepare their rice, vegetables and meat all while flipping utensils and throwing balls of rice into peoples mouths. Most of the kids didn’t catch it, but Matt and Jane did! and at the adult table I caught it too! It was a memorable meal with good food!

Our last afternoon on the beach. Today the water was clean. No seaweed, which was fantastic.

Fun to sit around and talk with friends. So fun being here together.

For some reason the kids really loved the pool right behind the wave pool… nothing fancy - just a basic pool, some tubes and friends.

Matt mastered diving into a tube. Love it!

We spent the last night at the Buffet with everyone and then went to the Mexican show at 9:30.

On Saturday morning we woke up at 3:30am and headed to the front of the resort to get in our shuttles for the airport. Our flights left at 7:45am and got us into Denver at 11:00. Such a fun Spring Break with these kids and our friends!
