Costa Rica - The Uvita Waterslide Waterfall

After our morning exploring the Tail of the Whale at low tide, we headed to the Uvita Waterfall and Butterfly Gardens. We walked through the butterfly exhibit and then continued on down the jungle trail and followed the river to the waterfall.

The falls were pretty and the water was a beautiful turquoise color and really pleasant to swim in.

Jon was the first one to climb the ladder and try the waterfall and soon everyone was doing it.

Pretty sure this waterslide waterfall was one of the MAIN highlights of the trip for the kids… because of the waterslide and because it was only a 5 minute hike in!

So fun!

Chris went to bed the night before pretty early and got a lot of good sleep but still woke up feeling pretty crumby. He took a nap in one of the beach chairs at the Tail of the Whale and hiked up to the falls with a smile on his face determined to enjoy himself, but looking noticeable sick. After going down the waterslides again and again and swimming in the pools for nearly two hours he said he felt like a new man. We renamed the Uvita Waterfall… the Healing Pools. So grateful for this quick and miraculous change. He was so much better the last three days!

Down stream we enjoyed another deep turquoise pool with a diving platform and rock cliff. Luke and Matt did flips over and over and over again trying different things.

Matt headed back to do the waterfall one more time. A new crowd had gathered and no one was attempting the waterslide. Matt jumped in, swam across the pond, climbed up the later and went down the waterslide without even hesitating. All eyes were on him and when he swam over to me he said, “Everyone just watched me do that. I feel kinda cool.” You should feel cool, Matt. Super impressive!

One more flip before heading back on the trail.

Late lunch at Los Laureles in Uvita

We loved being under the canopy and having this area of the restaurant all to ourselves. We ordered a spicy breaded shrimp appetizer to share and it was one of the kids favorite foods of the week. The shrimp tacos were delicious too! So funny that Jon was drying his dollar bills that were in his bathing suit pocket during the swim.

Enjoying the Sunset from the Pool

Back at the beautiful pool house we enjoyed the sunset from the back deck. Beautiful view and beautiful weather. Unfortunately the kids didn’t like to sit on the outdoor patio furniture at night because of the gigantic hand-sized grasshoppers that came to visit. They were pretty
