Megan - Dixie High Soccer - August
Tuesday, August 2nd
Lady Flyers and Parent Meeting
The girls had been practicing together every morning from 6:00-8:00am since Megan got here mid July, so she was starting to get to know the players really well, but it was fun for me to hear from the coaches, be introduced to each year of players and meet some of the other parents. I’ve been told Dixie is a school of tradition — and it’s true! They made a big ceremony out of introducing all the players and handing them their bag of uniforms and gifting each player a sign for their yard. So fun to be a part of Dixie Soccer.
When I met Coach Krystal she said she was so excited to get a new move in - which almost never happens - AND A GOOD ONE TOO!
Thursday, August 4th - PreSeason Tournament Game in Syracuse
It was fun to have a High School Soccer Tournament in Syracus before our regular season began. Timing worked out really well. On Wednesday Luke and I drove up to Provo and had lunch with my parents at Thai Hut. After shopping and hanging out at their house in Provo, we headed to Grandma Johnsons house in Sandy. Chris and Matt finished up their week in Colorado Springs and met us there. Fun to have the weekend to watch soccer and be together.
Megan joined her team early on Thursday morning and they rode the bus up together. This Tournament is filled with 5A and 6A teams so the competition is a little unfair but Coach says she likes the challenge so they can figure out what they need to work on.
Chris, Luke, Matt, Grandma and I watched the Thursday midday game with umbrellas to keep ourselves shaded. Boy was it hot! Fun to meet some of the other parents and talk to them after the game. Then we enjoyed Pizza Factory for lunch and hung out at Ashlyn’s house for the evening. Megan watched most of the JV game and then headed to the wedding reception of her Tahiti Counselor. It was a Tahiti friend reunion and she loved being with her people!
Friday, August 5th - PreSeason Tournament Game in Syracuse
Warming up for their night game against Syracuse. They were so excited to be playing at night and on the nice turf field. Grandma, Chris, Emily and I went to a movie - Where the Crawdads Sing - had lunch at the Garage while Luke and Matt hung out with Anders. Then we all headed up to the game to watch.
They played so much better tonight. It was fun to see them playing with energy and success. Love that Megan knows these cute girls so well already.
Fun to be getting to know some of the parents. Brynn’s parents introduced themselves to us and told us they really love watching Megan play. So nice!
Love this picture of Meg receiving some praise from Dad after the game.
Saturday, August 6th - PreSeason Tournament Game in Syracuse
Saturday afternoon on the turf fields again. We sat in the stands with Tonia and Steve. Fun to talk and start to learn the girls names.
After the game we headed back to St. George. Megan with her team on the bus, and the boys with us in the van. Excited to be in St. George ALL TOGETHER for the first time.
Thursday, August 11th - PreSeason Game against Syracuse High School — at Dixie High School
Ready for school on Game Day!
So fun to play on the Dixie field for the first time and have Megan start! She was so happy. After they announced the starting line-up then the rest of the team ran out to surround them and do their cheers. It was pretty exciting. I may have got a little choked up.
We had just played Syracuse in our pre-season tournament and lost. They are a 6A team so it’s not a fair match but it’s good practice and tells us what we need to work on. Megan played well but just couldn’t score against their defense. Syracuse won.
A beautiful night for Dixie Soccer!
Thursday, August 18th - Dixie at Cedar City
Our first Season Game. Dixie lost but Megan played great. The highlight was when Brynn scored and the photographer caught her and Megan hugging afterwards. So exciting!
Katie and Emily were home for a week at the end of summer so I had a big crew watching with me. We sat on the grass near the team and cheered as some of the freshmen JV team looked over to watch Luke and Matt. It was a 4:00pm game and even though Cedar City is generally cooler than St. George, it was blazing hot. I told Emily to go get Swig drinks for everyone and she happily agreed.
Dixie ended up losing and Megan felt like she was too far forward on a play and couldn’t get back quick enough and that maybe that was the reason she wasn’t being played the last 15 minutes. She was mad and when I asked for a picture at the end of the game, she didn’t want one. Finally she said, ‘Fine. But I’m not smiling.’ It was just one of those games. Always fun to watch her play!
Love this Instagram post highlighting the upcoming soccer games for this week.
Meg hugging Allee after her goal. : )
Tuesday, August 23th - Dixie at Hurricane
The game started at 7:30 but after only 20 minutes and a strong start the game was paused for lightning. We waited for a long time and figured the game would be postponed. I chatted with Tonia and the girls waited in the school and after an hour and a half they got the game going and again. It was such a good game and Megan played so well. Great passes, good energy (helps to be playing at 9:00-10:30 at night) and always in the right places. We won 4-1!
Once, while standing waiting to be subbed back in, Megan turned quickly to look at the photographer and she snapped this picture. So cute!
Megan’s cute picture made it on the Dixie High Teams Instagram page. Love it!
The Lady Flyers won 4-1. These girls needed a win. It was fun to watch the other players rush onto the field and celebrate together!
Thursday, August 25th - Dixie at Snow Canyon
This was the set up that led to Megan’s goal. She was so happy! It was pretty exciting. The crowd went crazy. Dixie and Snow Canyon are big rivals so for us to lead with a goal first was a big deal. I texted Dad immediately. ‘She scored - and I may be crying!’ Matt and I had so much fun watching and cheering. He kept shouting ‘GO MEGAN!’ over and over again. At half time he and I bolted out and found a Swig. These August games are HOT.
They really played SO well. It was an intense game. We led at half time 1-0. In the second half Snow Canyon scored to tie it up. The play was frantic but exciting. We ended with a tie so we we went into first overtime… and then second overtime. Snow Canyon ended up scoring. It was crushing. The poor girls worked so hard.
As Megan approached me after the game she was emotional. So many parents told her she played fantastic and should be so proud of herself. Love the support from these new friends and I love how hard Megan is working in these games. So proud of her!
Tuesday, August 30th - Pre-Season Game - Faith Lutheran at Dixie
This was another one of our pre-season games with a 5A team that was really no match for us. Plus, because of an ineligible player who has been mistakenly playing, our coach couldn’t be there to coach the game as punishment. It was a hard game and we lacked the energy and drive that we needed. They were definitely a good team! Fun to sit with Tonia and Steve.
