Megan - Dixie High Soccer - September
Thursday, September 1st - Crimson Cliffs at Dixie
Meg started at attacking. It was a tough team and they just couldn’t get anything to work. Tough loss. 0-3.
Meg with Sadie and Brooklyn
Meg literally ran right into the goalie. Hard. You can’t say she’s not aggressive. Seriously, she’s tough. The goalie was down for a minute before she got back up.
Tuesday, September 6th - Pine View at Dixie
It was 116 degrees today so they pushed the Varsity game to 8:00pm. By the time the game started it was down to 110 degrees but wow, was it ever hot! Chris, Brian, Luke, Matt and I headed straight from Luke’s XC Meet to her game. Megan started the game. They switched up their layout to a 4-1-4-1 and Megan started attacking mid.
Megan scored a goal. So good!!
The Dixie Lady Flyers ended up winning the game 4-1. Feels good to have another win!
Thursday, September 8th - Dixie at Desert Hills
They started on time but then delayed a half hour for lighting. Meg started attacking mid. They ended up losing 0-2. Not the best game. They just couldn’t make anything happen.
Chris and I were there to watch.
Tuesday, September 13th - Cedar City at Dixie
Here’s Megan in her classic pose as her name is announced as one of the starters. Forsey, one of the Dixie High teachers, a member of our Bishopric and the soccer game announcer, introduced Megan as “Meggy, Megan Johnson” for the first time today. He made an appearance in his classroom recently and he said he was going to announce her name like that. Of course she shugged her shoulders and said, “ok.” Lots of the soccer team girls call her Meggy.
It was 1-0 at half. Meg had a great game and an especially amazing cross but no one was really there to finish. It was impressive though. When Meg is on the sidelines, she always chooses to sit by the coaches. Yes, they are the more comfortable seats but I think she also likes to hear what the coaches about different plays on the field are wants to be taught. I don’t have a picture of this but it happens every game and we just love it!
Here she is with Anna in the middle and Allee on the right.
Love watching this girl play!
Thursday, September 15th - Hurricane at Dixie
Ready to play tonight! Love the beautiful sunsets from our home field.
Chris and I and Granny J sat in the stands with Steve and Tonia, Brin’s parents.
Megan played SO WELL tonight. Steve, nicknamed her ‘The Blue Flash’. The score was 1-1 at halftime and we had so many chances to score and definitely dominated the first half. It was an intense game. In the second half, we scored again, which was SO exciting. Hurricane scored with 8 minutes to go and we just couldn’t answer back so we ended with a tie 2-2.
Megan hardly played at all in the second half of the game. Keira’s mom came up to sit by us and said, “Why is Megan not in? She should be in there. She can run through anyone!!” Two other parents approached us at the end of the game puzzled as to why Meg wasn’t playing in the second half. It’s a mystery — especially with such a close game.
We went into overtime and they put Meg back on the field. Lots of close chances but we ended two 10 minute overtime halves still 2-2. Then came the shoot outs. Coach looked at Meg to ask she if she wanted in, but she didn’t feel confident and shook her head.
Halia, Kiera, Kim, Jaide, and Allee shot and every one of them made it. On Hurricane’s team, four of them made it, which led to our win. Boy, was it a dramatic game. It’s so fun to win!!
Love these pictures of the girls running out to celebrate. Meg totally leading the way!
Monday, September 19th - Team Dinner at Tonaquint Park
I signed up to feed the team dinner and decided to have it at a park since the weather is cooling down a bit and we hardly have room for the whole team and coaches in our home. We served taco pile-up and Amanda and one of the other moms helped bring a few things, which was so nice. Fun to see all the girls together in a different setting. : )
Tuesday, September 20th - Snow Canyon at Dixie
This one was a rough one. Lady Flyers suffer defeat from Snow Canyon at home.
Tuesday, September 27th - Dixie at Crimson Cliffs
Megan started at attacking and assisted to Anna who scored within the first four minutes. They were ‘shook’. The game was pretty even.
Megan didn’t play as much as she usually did. For some reason Crystal didn’t have her in as much a normal and Meg cried twice sitting on the bench as she made up a song with Grace and Tay about how Crystal should have put her in.
Ended the game 1-1. First overtime Megan didn’t play at all and no one scored. Second overtime Megan started at the 6 and they scored with probably 3 minutes left. So as Megan would say, "‘Crimson takes the W.’
Dang. So close.
