Norway Cruise - Ålesund

Can you believe this? It was just so fun to wake up each morning and look outside to see the most beautiful views of populated islands in the fjord. I love it here.

Our view as we docked the cruise ship right next to this cute part of town in Ålesund.

While the boys headed off to pick up our two little rental cars for the day, the girls and I walked to a nearby neighborhood with these colorful row of houses lining the water. We’re ready for rain today.

Our first stop was a Norwegian grocery store to pick up some treats and snacks. Then off we went.

A few impromptu stops along the road. The pictures just don’t do the scene justice but the red and white houses with misty clouds rolling over the distant mountains were majestic. Rain suits you, Norway.

We pulled over and got out to enjoy this distant quiet scene and then decided to walk down to a little boat harbor.

Love that little row of red boat houses along the lake.

Loved stopping to walk around this cute church. Especially loved the green doors.

One of our favorite stops was this side road near these impressive snow capped mountains. Just so gorgeous.

Churches and cemeteries nestled into valleys along our road. Love thinking about the people who’ve lived their lives right here in this valley.

Coming in May allowed us to see SO many waterfalls. The mountains just trickled water everywhere. Beautiful.

We found a beautiful river and trail by the railroad tracks and decided to explore for awhile.

A bike riding lady troll this time… and I loved the grass roofs of these cute red cabins.

Ålvundeid Church

We spent the day traveling with Brian and Terri, who were up for every single stop. Loved this red octagonal church and cemetery grounds.

Ålesund GolfKlubb

The boys were so excited to stop at this golf club and hit a bucket of balls. Golfing in Norway… check. They even picked up some matching ball markers and enjoyed a mini putting competition.

Walking around Ålesund

The downtown area was quaint and colorful. We loved the pedestrian walking areas, the colorful buildings and the beautiful stone entrance to a local theater. Round turrets, balconies, troll statues, beautiful flowers, boats and shops with more raincoats made this city just magical.

Raincoat Pictures with the Girls

The guys were shopped out but Terri was anxious to pick up a matching raincoat. After finding the exact same brand we headed to the wharf to take a few pictures. (Chris stayed to help with the photos). We had to be back on the ship at 6:30pm but we were so close to the cruise ship that we weren’t too worried about timeWe didn’t realize the ship had started contacting our emergency contacts. We had to run at the end but made it to the ship by 6:26pm with four minutes to spare. We were definitely a sight with our colorful matching raincoats running to the gangplank. The worker who helped us aboard said, “Last ones on the ship. That’s the way to do it!!” What a fun day.

A few pictures as we headed out of the port.

Dinner at our usual table. We went to the theater after dinner to watch the Magician and it was a really good show. Then off to the library to play Azul with Jared and Geneva.
