European Expedition - Heidelberg Day Two
Wednesday we woke up at 8:00 but even that seemed hard. We seem to be effectively switched to the new time zone but we’re still tired! Maybe thats because of the 8 miles we logged the first day and many more since then.
We grabbed pretzels, mozzarella sandwiches and a cherry streusel from the Cafe Gundel downtown. Love those giant pretzels.
We ate our breakfast as we crossed the bridge and headed up the Philosphers Weg.
Why is it always so fun to walk on the ledges?
This Matthew boy is just so cute!!!
The views of Heidelberg are great and it’s so fun to walk along this pathway high above the river and city below.
We took a dirt pathway up to find the grassy field and tire tetter totter. It’s quite something. The kids played on it for quite a while all laughing and squealing.
Dad and I tried for awhile — but had to stop before Chris threw up and I got a headache. German playgrounds are so much fun.
We headed to the lookout park and the kids used their Euros to get Magnum Bars.
In the van we headed over to the River Neckar Park but unfortunately we couldn’t play there since most of the equipment was surrounded in mud from the recent floor. It was disappointing. The kids had been so excited about playing there.
St. Michel’s Monastery Ruins
Instead we headed up the mountain to the St. Michel’s Monastery Ruins. A place that we visited countless times with friends and family. Everyone remembered the ruins once we got up there — except Matt. Poor guy doesn’t remember anything.
We jumped and climbed on the ruins and had a lot of fun. The boys were finally old enough to walk on the walls — so that meant I could too.
Hitler’s Amphitheater
Of course the kids had to have races up the stairs. We’ve done that activity every time we’ve come. But a new one and
And something that will be remembered for a long time… a swing dance show from the stage of the Hitler’s Amphitheater. Love that these kids love to dance together.
