Canada, Grandma Polley, Halloween
Canada
Chris’ next rotation was back up in Washington doing a month of Radiology at his number one choice for Residency. He had a great month and really hopes to get selected to train here. The kids and I spent the month up in Canada with my parents, with Chris visiting on the weekends.
Grandma Polley
My Grandma Polley was able to visit Vancouver while we were there. It was so great to spend some quality time with my Mom and Grandma. I am so glad we were able to get a 4 generation picture with the three of us and Katie.
Grandpa’s Canoe
My Dad finished building his canoe in 2000, but this was the first time we were able to go out with him in it. We went canoeing a couple of times in White Rock on some beautiful days we had. Our first trip was just my Dad and Ryan and I. But the following weekend, we took everyone. The kids both loved being in the canoe. Ryan even took a turn paddling with the paddle that Mike had made.
Pumpkin Patch
On Canadian Thanksgiving, we took off for a great outing and came across fields and fields of huge pumpkins. We decided to stop and pick our own pumpkins. Grandpa pushed the kids in the wheelbarrow out into the fields. Katie and ‘bampa’ are becoming great friends. It was a beautiful day and the pumpkins were perfect! We picked some great big ones. Even Ryan and Katie picked out their own little pumpkins. We had so much fun!
Letter from Lisa - October 23, 2001
We are doing great. We sure went from Summer to Fall here in the past couple of weeks. The sun is out today, but it’s still windy and cold. I’ve had to get my kids warm jammies. The nights get really cold.
It’s been fun to be here with my family. We have gone on lots of outings. My Dad built a canoe last year and it is his new pride and joy. We have gone out in his canoe several times. Chris was able to have ‘Columbus Day’ off which is Canadian Thanksgiving! We had a big huge feast. I haven’t been home for Canadian Thanksgiving since before I went off to college. We also went with my parents and brothers to the country and found a big pumpkin patch and picked our own pumpkins. The weather was beautiful. We put Ryan and Katie in the wheelbarrow and Grandpa Pushed them as we wandered through the fields. Last weekend Chris and I took the kids to Bear Creek Park. It is really gorgeous around here with all the fall colors and leaves. We went for a walk through the park and then took a train ride around a Halloween decorated village. The kids loved it.
Ryan is doing well. His potty training is going SO well. I’m so happy. He now tells me when he needs to go and hasn’t had an accident in a week. He is so proud of himself. It’s wonderful. One of the first days we started trying I said, Ryan make it come out. He looked down and said “Come out now alright?” When nothing happened, he said “I think it’s asleep”.
Ryan and I are going to a story puppet, singing class at the library once a week. It’s good for him. He sure misses his little preschool friends from Maryland.
Katie is almost 16 months old and is quite the little monkey. I can’t leave her alone for a second or she’ll spill oil all over the carpet, put earrings down the bathroom sink, or stand up on the kitchen table and shake salt everywhere. She is quite something. She is a cutie though. Her big brown eyes lure people to do whatever she wants. She loves to sing action songs and play with her big brother. She is learning new words and this week loves to say ‘cow’ and ‘MOOOOO’!
My kids have been going to bed around 7:45 which is SO nice for me. I have been scrapbooking lots and yesterday made 2 halloween crafts.
Love Lisa, Chris, Ryan and Katie
Carving Pumpkins
For ‘Famy Home Ening’ before Halloween, we carved our pumpkins from the pumpkin patch. The kids got to sit on top of the table to help take out the slimy seeds.
Halloween
Katie loved Halloween. She was a pumpkin and loved that people put candy in her bag when she said ‘plea’. She was so cute! Ryan loved his pirate costume, especially the sword. He loved getting lots of candy and for days after he kept asking if it was Halloween again.
