Chicago Day Three - Katie's Senior Trip

Do-Rite Donuts

We ate Do-Rite donuts again     Next stop — impromptu $32 tickets for that nights showing of Rogers and Hammerstein Cinderella Musical.

Millennium Park

The Art Institute of Chicago

We walked through Millennium Park and headed to the Chicago Art Museum for the morning. We had 42 degree weather so it was nice to find something to do inside— even though we had put on multiple layers. Fun to see some famous art work and wander through the galleries. Naturally all of our Chicago adventures had something to do with Ferris Buehler’s Day Off. Chris started at the painting that Cameron stared at… just because.

Walking through the city and Lunch at Frontera

Portillo’s for Cake Shakes

We found a great Mexican place for lunch and even though we were full decided we needed to try a cake shake from Portillos. Well, really Chris and Katie wanted to try it and I did not. It sounded awful… and it was! It was nasty - soggy cake mixed up in a shake? Yuck. But Chris and Katie loved it — and apparently lots of people do. Ha ha. Another funny memory.

Willis Tower

The Willis Tower was fun, especially standing out on the Skydeck and taking a few pictures. It wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be, but I didn’t do a handstand, like Dad did.

Love these pictures of Chris and I at the top of the Willis Tower. Love this man!

Cinderella and Ghirardelli’s

We headed back to our hotel and rested for a half hour until we got ready to go to the Rogers and Hammerstein Cinderella show that we had spontaneously bought tickets for earlier in the day. It was fun — especially since it was such a last minute addition.

Then we headed to Ghirardelli’s for hot fudge ice cream Sundaes.  While we were eating them, a man stopped breathing and fell backwards from his chair. Dad was over there before I even knew what was going on and was seconds away from opening his shirt and starting CPR but he took a  breath just in time. Dad took his pulse and waited with him until the paramedics got there. Wow. An exciting finish to our trip. While we were helping though, the workers took our ice cream Sundaes away even though we hadn't finished and so we got them remade for free and coupons for free ones next time we visit.  That was nice. Well, it was a great trip!  So fun to spend this special trip with Katie girl.  Time is going by so fast. She’ll be graduated and gone before we know it. We ♥️ Chicago!
