Fall Soccer Season

Tuesday, August 11th - Anglers Silver vs. Pride 06G

Luke’s first game of the fall Season with games on a weeknight, which is so great! Chris and I took our chairs and sat next to the blue turf. They won 6-0!

Tuesday, August 18th - Anglers vs. 7 Pueblo Rangers

This one was a tough one. Luke’s team lost 1-4.

Thursday, August 20th - Friday, August 21st - Rapids Classic Tournament for Bob

Game 1: Thursday’s game started at 8:50 — so late — but ended about 20 minutes into the game because of lightning. Such a bummer. Bob stayed up at a hotel with Alaina and her mom — which was so nice. The Tournament had the very strict rule of ‘NO SPECTATORS’ so Shelese and I came up with a plan of who would take them to save money on a hotel. Megan had fun hanging out at the hotel with her friends before their game and in between their two games on Friday.

Game 2: Friday’s games were at 8:00am and 12:10. They won the first one and lost the second one.

Tuesday, September 1st - Anglers Silver vs. B-Elite 05G

Another great game. Anglers won 3-1!

Thursday, September 10th - Anglers Silver vs. United 05G

When this game popped up on Luke’s schedule I thought they had made a mistake. Then I saw it confirmed on Megan’s schedule. This was definitely a unique opportunity to have their teams play against each other. A game for Luke. A scrimmage for Bob.

As the second half started Luke and Bob were on the field together - Left Forward against Right Defense. I had my camera in the van but because it was so COLD hadn’t grabbed it or taken any pictures. I quickly changed my mind but when I got back I only took this one picture before Luke was subbed out.

It was a great game. United won 3-0 but the Anglers gave it their all and it was quite the game. Bob scored twice - once speeding past Luke for the goal. But we were so proud of how Luke played. He even juked his sister, which made Bob turn to look at us and put her hand up to her eyes in shame. It made us all laugh.

For this picture with Luke and Andrew, Bob put up a ZERO on one side and a THREE on the other — just to rub it in a bit. Andrew realized what she was doing and quickly grabbed her hand to stop her. It was pretty funny. Scott and Amy were laughing as well.

Saturday, September 12th - United 05 vs. Rocky Mountain Cougars 05

Bob and I headed to El Pomar arriving at 8:15. The warm sun felt so good — especially after a week of snow and cold temperatures. Bob scored to make it 2-2 at the half. In the second half the opposing team scored one more and we just couldn’t make it happen. Some frustrating calls from the refs including one where Bob tried to score, the goalie grabbed the ball and then lost it and Alaina scored but they called it offsides. It was crazy. Should have ended 3-3.

Matt’s first two Developmental Games of the Season

Meanwhile Christ took Matt to his first game of the season at 9:30am and watched Matt assist a goal before taking Luke over to get his pre-procedure COVID test. Matt’s team won the game 4-1.

Chris and Luke returned and Megan and I arrived to watch Matt’s second game at Cottonwood — which brought back a lot of memories for Megan as a young soccer player with Coach Chuck. Good times. Matt’s team won again. The level of play is definitely down a notch with Matt being in Developmental again — but a shorter season without traveling games is a bonus. Plus, it gives Matt a great opportunity to shine. We just didn’t know if this COVID season would allow us to play at all and decided against putting a lot of money into another Competitive Season.

Tuesday, September 15th - Anglers vs. Pride United 07B

Luke and Andrew played against their friend Ben for this game. This is really the COPA team - since all the teams moved down this year because of DA team moving into the Predator spot. Anglers scored first and the boys were so happy. United scored in the second half but both teams played really hard. At the end the United Coach said, “We needed a good challenge like that.” It was a great game. On the way home I asked Luke about his feelings being on this team instead of on Pride. He said, “I love Anglers. I love the Coach. I feel like I’ve gotten SO much better being on his team.” I’m so glad.

Saturday, September 19th - United 05 vs. FC Boulder 05G

Bob played Saturday morning at 10:30 and Dad and I were there to cheer her on. It was a tough team but because of a foul in the box, Sammy scored on a PK. It was pretty exciting and the whole level of play intensified. The game ended 1-0. Coach Ted was pretty excited.

Emily, Luke and Matt met us at Mod Pizza for lunch. We haven’t been there for awhile so it was fun to do between games. Chris took Megan and Emily to Dicks in between and I took Luke and Matt over to get Matt’s team pictures taken and then we all watched Matt’s afternoon game.

Matt’s Team Lightning vs another Pride Team

So fun to watch Matt play. He plays center mid and makes a lot of things happen for his team. His first goal this game was a beauty. Coming down the right side of the field and then shot it right into the upper left corner. Matt loved it when one of his teammates said, “I don’t know how you did that, but you did!” He scored a second goal and then made two assists as well. Nice job Matthew!!!

Thursday, September 24th - Anglers vs. B Elite 06

Luke and Bob had back to back games on the Blue turf at Vanguard. The three of us spent the evening there. (Chris was moonlighting in Gunnison.) For Luke and Andrew’s game, Megan and I sat with Scott to cheer them on.

Speedy Luke running to get the ball. My camera wasn’t on the right settings because of how dark it was but I kind of like that blurry first one. He’s just so fast! Colin, the main defender, wasn’t here this game, but they still did a great job in defense. It ended in a tie 2-2.

United 05G vs. Anglers High School Girls

Love those first three pictures. Follow the defender in each picture… It keeps happening over and over again. Bob speeds up, beats the defenders and heads straight for the goal. She scored on this run! First goal of the game. She also assisted one in the first half and then sat out most of the second half since they were so ahead. They ended up winning 6-1.

Luke and I had fun watching. He said he was going to cheer for the Anglers Girls team, since he had on his Anglers jersey and feels a sense of loyalty to the program. I wanted a picture of the two of us but he had to make sure to take off his red Pride jacket before the picture. It was pretty funny. Glad this boy is having such a great season and loving his team.

Saturday, September 26th - United 05G vs. Broomfield Blast Girls Thunder

Chris and I and Megan drove an hour and a half up to Broomfield for her game. Chris and I walked for a half hour while Megan warmed up and then sat to watch her play so that we were close to the action. It was such an intense game to watch. Several bad ref calls had both teams playing with more aggression than usual. Jasmine got a yellow card and then a RED CARD and was kicked out of the game. Chris said it should have been a foul for the other player. It was crazy and both teams were heated. We ended up losing 5-4.

Loved this move for a great cross in front of the goal.

We stayed after the game to chat with parents and coach. Everyone was pretty worked up.

I grabbed a picture of Bob and Alaina and then all of a sudden all the girls that were still there ran over to get in. Love this United team. Such fun girls.

Bob - Cassie - Helen - Sammy - Alaina - Jasmine - Kennedy

After the game we headed to The Old Spaghetti Factory for a big lunch - which was so fun. I love Soccer Saturdays!

Matt’s Game

As soon as we got home, I picked up Matt and we headed to his game up at Lewis Palmer High School at 5:00. He did great… lots of good passing. Everyone loves to watch him play and compliments him on how he helps everyone else get the shot. Fun to sit and chat with Jamie.

Saturday, October 3rd - Matt’s Game

We started General Conference and then listened to a few talks on our way to Matt’s game at Cottonwood Park. The whole family came to watch and we enjoyed sitting on the hill in the sunshine and cheering for our #1 player. Matt played great and their team won 4-1. Matt made a lot of great things happen including an assist from his corner kick. Megan didn’t have a game today and just watching Matt play made her so jealous.

Monday, October 5th - Bob’s Eval with Coach Ted

Bob got a great eval. Ted’s comments: “Bob, you always work hard and you have a great attitude. You have scored several nice goals and you are very fast. Keep working on striking the ball with power with both feet and shooting accuracy. It is a true pleasure coaching you and you are a great teammate!”

Tuesday, October 6th - Anglers vs. Pride United 07B

Luke’s last official game and a rematch against his friend Ben and the Pride United players. They both fought hard and ended in a 1-1 tie. United went undefeated except the two games they played against us. Glad that we could be right at their level.

Being on Anglers was such a good experience for Luke. He loved Coach Mary and the other players and felt like he really learned a lot and was able to grow as a player. Definitely felt like a blessing for him to move to Anglers this year.

Luke’s last game was more of an after school scrimmage with some of the students of Thomas Maclaren Middle School on Monday, October 12th. They won 8-0. After the scrimmage the players headed over to Lost Island Ninja Warrior so the players could climb robes, swing over obstacles and run and jump up ledges. Luke loved it. It was a great end to the season.

Saturday, October 10th - Pride United 05 at Skyline 05G Blue …and Matt’s Game

Megan and I headed up to Denver for her game at 12:30.

Matt had a game at 12:30 at Woodland Hills. His friend Gabe called me to see if Matt could hang out before the game — which came in handy since I was gone. Glad they could hang out together.

Saturday, October 17th - Pride United 05 Girls at FC Boulder 05 Girls

Dad drove Megan up to Boulder for her game at 2:00. Rules up in Boulder were that no spectators were allowed, but Chris found a place to watch from a distance behind a fence. Megan was supposed to play WITH a mask on but luckily they didn’t enforce it too carefully and they players just had them ready around their necks. Playing with masks would have been nearly impossible. The two of them grabbed Cafe Rio on the way home.

Matt’s Game

Meanwhile I watched Matt play in his last game of the season. (The team played on October 24th but we missed it because of our first official trip to the Lodge.)

On the last Wednesday practice the parents were invited to come scrimmage. Dad met him at the field and Matt was SO excited. They had a great parents against players game… except that one of Matt’s friends ‘accidentally’ stepped on Dad’s ankle with his cleat. It was swollen for weeks!

Fun to have this Developmental Season. I was sure it was going to get cancelled mid-season, but it didn’t. Fun to have a less stressful weekday and Saturday schedule and that Matt could play with friends and shine on the field. Way to go Matt!

Saturday, October 31st - Pride United 05 at Denver Kickers White

I sat 6 feet away from Shelese and we talked and cheered together with masks on. Megan played well but didn’t start — either did Alaina. She said some players had been complaining about enough playing time and he needed to be fair. They lost 3-2 and Megan jokingly said she hoped Coach learned his lesson. Megan didn’t score but made a beautiful cross for an assist. Bob is so sad this is the last game of the season.

We enjoyed Torchy’s Tacos on the way home. They have tacos named the REBUPLICAN and the DEMOCRAT. Megan picked the DEMOCRAT and I stayed neutral with Fried Avocado. Just funny since the Trump vs. Biden election is days away.

Megan enjoyed her end of season party at Marco’s on Monday, November 2nd. She sure does love her team!
