Tuesday, March 10 5:30 Program Dinner
Wednesday, March 4th - Undecided Varsity
Megan found out that she was on the ‘Undecided Varsity’ team!! So happy for her! That means that she’s for sure on Junior Varsity but will practice and play with the Varsity team the next two days and then on the full Saturday pre-season scrimmage day. They already have a fairly full Varsity team, so it is likely that she will stay on Junior Varsity but to be considered for Varsity as a Freshman is a pretty big accomplishment. Charlee was on ‘Undecided Varsity’ as well. So proud of both of them!
Saturday, March 7th - All-Day Scrimmage
Megan practiced with Varsity on Thursday and Friday and then played with Varsity on the All-Day Scrimmage hosted by Pine Creek and held at the D20 Stadium. They had 5 half hour games. During Megan’s first game she and Charlee were put in for the last 15 minutes. Charlee passed to Kayleigh who passed to Megan, who scored. Pretty exciting to have three freshman make that play. She also had another goal. A corner kick hit Megan’s leg, rebounded on an opposing girl, and went into the goal. She also had an assist. During the second game she hardly played at all. During her third game she got another assist. They won their first three games. The fourth and fifth games were against harder teams. She didn’t play much and the team lost. She walked away feeling pretty good about how she played and she sure loved playing with the Varsity players. What started as a 'I really want to be on JV for the playing time’ turned into ‘I really want to be on Varsity because of the level of skill.’ But then some anxiety kicked in and she figured everyone would make Varsity except her.
Coach texted her that evening telling her she would be placed on Junior Varsity but that he wanted to have her come in and chat with him about what she needs to do better in order to play Varsity. She quickly texted Charlee and found out she’d be in Junior Varsity as well. That made things a little better. Out of the three Freshman in the ‘Undecided Varsity’ slot, Kayleigh made Varsity and Charlee, Megan and Vicki made Junior Varsity. We are happy for her and feel like she’s in a great spot. She’ll be one of the leaders in the Junior Varsity program with lots of playing time.
On Monday she talked with Coach who told her she needs to work on her touch and play faster but that he’ll want her to practice with Varsity on occasion and wants her to swing up and play in the Varsity game this coming Thursday. We’re so proud of her!
Tuesday, March 8th - Picture Day and Team Dinner
Fun to get together with all the other players, parents and talk to the coaches for awhile. Coach Keller remembered us from when Katie played on JV. And Gracie (one of Katie’s best friends) is a volunteer who assists him. Fun to see her there as well. We ate dinner and listened Coach Frederick talk about the season. It’s going to be a great year!
Thursday, March 12th - JV Game at 5:30 - Varsity Game at 7:00 - Denver
Chris and I were planning to head up to Denver to watch Megan’s JV game and then stay for the Varsity game as well but… NBA closure news from the night before had a trickle down effect and other teams and organizations followed suit to stop large gatherings and keep people from spreading the virus. While the kids were at school, we received a text that the Colorado HS Athletics Association decided to suspend all sports from now until April 6th.
Megan received the text while in one of her classes and she and another soccer player exchanged looks and then started to get emotional. She said that in the hallways as any of the team would see each other they would talk and hug each other. She said it was horrible but pretty bonding. Megan's first JV game was supposed to be up in Denver tonight. It was definitely sad. The soccer teams met as a group after school and some Seniors were crying. I could feel that this was coming but was hoping to see her play one time for JV and Varsity before everything came to a halt.
Wednesday, April 1st
Now we’re to no school or sports until April 30th. But we have a feeling that it will likely be pushed back and the season will be cancelled entirely. So sad.
Tuesday, April 21st
And it’s official. Coach Frederick sent out a heartfelt email sharing the news that the season would be cancelled. Megan was pretty bummed although none of us were surprised. Already excited for next year. Fingers crossed.
Dear Parents and Players,
This is the one thing I did not want to do! This is the one thing I knew was going to happen but deep inside was in complete denial. I am sitting here at the computer trying to put to words my emotions that I have held back for a while. As tears are welling up inside, I am sad to say the Spring Season has officially been cancelled. Logistics about uniforms/equipment/End of the Year Celebration/etc… will be coming by email as soon as we nail down the specifics.
As I envision even seeing you seniors, I cannot stop welling up inside. The hugs I want to give, the encouragement I want to pass on, the hope I want to spread, the laughter I want to share… I am so Thankful I have gotten to know such beautiful people. I have learned so much from this group of Seniors and I hope when I write your individual letters, I can put those emotions and thoughts on paper. I know we would’ve started a new and dominant Pine Creek Run. The way in which each of you have helped shape our program this past year, making me a better coach, making me a better person will be long lasting. Your Legacy is strong, and I promise it will continue. Every underclassman felt a difference this year. Thank you for each of you, From Anahi to Greer and Murdock, Bridgett to Alyssa, Hannah to Madi, Halle/Paige/Sam/Ashlyn, Each of you with your own Pine Creek Women’s Soccer Story. I hope I made even a sliver of difference in your lives that you did in mine. I love this group and will do my best to honor you guys when the time is right.
And then the rest of our Program, wow! We are in some phenomenal hands. The Freshmen this year all stepped up and bought in to our hard work, even becoming role models to teammates. Sophomores were all in, choosing to be a part of the game plan and direction we are headed, thus being one of the most coachable groups of all. Juniors took the reigns as well and have become influencers and leaders in our program already. I know we are in great hands. Support our Seniors, however that looks like. Let them know they are valued and loved. We will miss them, so lets ensure they miss us. Continue to be a part of their lives.
Parents, you guys have been awesome! I may need to lean on you guys some more in the next few weeks, but thank you for supporting us as coaches, but most importantly your daughters as they navigated this time of restlessness, uncertainty, and disappointment.
I am grateful for the time I had with this group. I am full of pride knowing I was their coach even if it was for just 2 weeks. I choose to focus on those things that bring me joy and with this group it hasn’t been hard to find them. This is why it’s so hard, everyone of you is special to us. Continue to put on your capes as you prepare for whatever you will conquer.
Thank You,
Coach Frederick
